This year, we’re giving all the great anglers in the Black Belt plenty of time to have a shot at winning a great prize in our Best Black Belt Fish Photo Contest. The deadline is not until Sept. 11, but you’ll want to enter as soon as you can to give your friends and family time to vote for you. Visit alabamablackbeltadventures.org/bestblackbeltfishcontest to upload your photo or to vote for your favorite entry. You can vote once per day, per entry, per email address. The winner will receive a half-day guided fishing trip at Lake Eufaula led by expert fisherman Tony Adams and a night at beautiful Lakepoint State Park. The prize package is worth $430.
The contest is open to any type fish taken in Alabama’s Black Belt. Best Black Belt Fish Photo Contest winners from 2017 and 2018 are not eligible. The Black Belt includes the following counties: Barbour, Bullock, Butler, Choctaw, Clarke, Conecuh, Crenshaw, Dallas, Greene, Hale, Lee, Lowndes, Macon, Marengo, Monroe, Montgomery, Perry, Pickens, Pike, Russell, Sumter, Tuscaloosa and Wilcox.
Farmers Market Season
The Dallas County Farmers’ Market will officially be opened for its 2019 season beginning on Saturday, June 1, 2019. The market will be opened on Tuesday’s, Thursday’s and Saturday’s beginning June 1 – November 15, 2019, from 6:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. or until the last vendor sells out. A Public Works/General Services committee will meet on Friday, September 6, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers to discuss budget issues in Public Works/General Service.

Canines, Camels, Cats, & Critters Wagon Tour of Old Cahawba

This wagon tour will include short walks and will transport you and your pooch to places throughout the park associated with Cahawba’s most notable animal ancestors. We'll discover why camels were imported to Cahawba, learn the story behind the Faithful Dog, and visit the location where some animals fear to tread. Well-behaved, leashed pets are welcome to join their humans on this one-hour guided tour of Old Cahawba. People without dogs are also welcome to attend.
