Cemetery Walking Tour at Old Cahawba set for Oct. 2
(Montgomery, AL) Old Cahawba Archaeological Park, a historic site operated by The Alabama Historical Commission, will be hosting a Cemetery Walking Tour on Saturday, Oct. 2, from 10 a.m.-11 a.m.
The mysterious antiquity of Old Cahawba’s cemeteries reveals the richly layered history surrounding this celebrated ghost town. The one-hour guided tour of the New Cemetery, established in 1851, will explore the personal accounts of some of those who lived here before joining its community of perpetual residents.
Tickets are $8 each and available at the Old Cahawba Visitor Center. The tour is allotted for a maximum of 15 participants. Interested parties are encouraged to purchase their tickets in advance of the event. Tickets may be purchased by calling 334-872-8058. Old Cahawba accepts all major credit cards. On the day of the event, participants will meet at the Visitor Center, rain or shine.
Old Cahawba lies at the confluence of the Alabama and Cahaba Rivers, and from 1819 to 1826 it served as Alabama’s first capital. From downtown Selma, take Highway 22 (Dallas Avenue) west 8.6 miles. Cross over the Cahaba River and turn left onto County Road 9 and follow this 3.3 miles until it dead ends. Turn left onto County Road 2 and follow this 1.5 miles until you see the Visitor Center on the right. Visitor Center Address: 9518 Cahaba Road, Orrville, AL 36767.

9th Annual Get Fit Selma! 2021 Switches to an Outdoor Testing & Vaccination Event with a COVID Conscious Defeat Diabetes 5K Run/Walk & Community Fun Run/Walk
The 9th Annual Get Fit Selma! Health & Fitness Festival is switching from its traditional in-person, indoor health fair with health screenings, tabling by local and state organizations and special guests from throughout the South - to a Testing and Vaccination Event.
The Testing & Vaccination event will open with a COVID Conscious Defeat Diabetes 5K Run/Walk & Community Fun Run/Walk at 7:00 am. The Start Time for the racing and walking events is 8:00 am. There are reduced rates for any groups of FIVE or TEN people. Information is available at .
Testing & Vaccinations start at 9:00 am to Noon at McRae-Gaines Learning Center, 1101 Woodrow Avenue, Selma AL. The testing and vaccinations will be performed in drive-through or walk-up options. People in need of testing or vaccination should bring their Medicaid, Medicare or insurance cards in case they are needed.
Medical professionals from Rural Health Medical Program, Vaughan Regional Medical Center, Main Street Family Urgent Care and Rho Eta Chapter of Chi Eta Phi Sorority, are joining McRae-Gaines Learning Center and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc, Selma Alumnae Chapter (SAC) to carry out the event.

Lunch will be provided for all participants, and prizes will be awarded for each flight.
Corporate sponsorships are available. A platinum sponsorship is $800, while gold is $600, silver $400 and Friends of Special Needs Children is $100. Corporate sponsors will be recognized during fun day activities.
The fundraiser benefits agencies that serve special needs children in Selma and Dallas County. Those agencies include the Cahaba Mental Health Center, West Alabama Rehabilitation-Easter Seals, Selma City Schools and Dallas County Schools.
