Once Alabama’s first state capital (1820-1826) and a thriving antebellum river town, Cahawba became a  ghost town shortly after the Civil War.  Today Cahawba is “Alabama’s most famous ghost town” and a park where archaeologists are uncovering long buried secrets.  Visitors can explore miles of abandoned streets, ruins, cemeteries, and river views.  Open daily 12-5 pm.
